A delegation of Syariah Court officials yesterday left for Kuala Lumpur to attend the Nusantara Syariah Judiciary and Legal Conference 2023 and a meeting for the formation of Syariah Judiciary Secretariat Body.
The conference organised by the Department of Syariah Judiciary of Malaysia revolves around the theme, ‘Empowering Court Jurisdiction and Syariah Appeals Court Administration in Nusantara’.
The Brunei delegation is led by Chief Syar’ie Judge Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.
Syariah High Court Judge Dato Seri Setia Haji Johar bin Haji Muhamad, as a panel member, along with two senior officials of the Syariah Court also attended.
The conference aims to realise the Department of Syariah Judiciary of Malaysia’s hope of establishing a secretariat among Nusantara countries to discuss issues in Islamic family law, Syariah Judiciary and criminal matters. The secretariat will serve as a platform to empower the Syariah appeals court in the region. – Fadley Faisal
