Setia Protective Security Services (SPSS) personnel took swift action to put out a fire and prevent it from spreading at International Convention Centre, Berakas on Thursday.
Some 15 firefighters from Berakas Fire Station and the Operation ‘C’ Branch of the Women Operation Unit, led by Commanding Officer SSFR Ema Azeema binti Haji Abdul Kader Jailani, were dispatched to the incident, according to the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD).
Firefighters found that the fire broke out in a section of the building with exhibition booths.
The fire was extinguished by SPSS before the firefighters arrived. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus moved in to extinguish the remaining fire.
Acting Director of FRD Azmi bin Haji Hafneh, Acting Deputy Director of FRD Haji Nohi Irwan Surkaki bin Haji Pawi and Acting Assistant Director of Operation from FRD Noor Aflan bin Awang Kachi were also present to oversee the operation.
The FRD reminded the public to make sure building premises and homes are equipped with fire extinguishers of the dry powder type, along with fire blankets.
Installation of wiring and electrical equipment should be done by qualified technicians in accordance with the Department of Electrical Services, and electrical appliances must be switched off after use.
