Surge in COVID-19 cases

Brunei Darussalam has witnessed a significant surge in the number of new COVID-19 cases reported over the past week, with an average daily rate of 668 cases compared to 175 cases per day in the previous week.

The Ministry of Health (MoH), in its weekly statement today said that within a week, a total of 18,786 Antigen Rapid Test (ART) results were uploaded to the BruHealth application, of which 24.7 percent were positive ART test results.

1,042 new cases were reported on Monday, of which 1,039 were the result of ART tests, and three cases were detected from Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) laboratory tests that were performed in the past 24 hours.

The Ministry of Health has assured the public that the increase in cases is not unusual and is to be expected, as it is a normal cycle variation for most infections, including COVID-19.
