Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) supported the World Cancer Day Weekend by showcasing the BIBD Wellness Programme at a weekend event at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien in the capital.

The Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre (PJSC) organised the weekend event.

The event’s objective was to bring people together in the fight against the global cancer epidemic by raising awareness and educating the public on the signs, symptoms, and risk factors of cancer.

The bank set up an exhibition booth where BIBD Wellness Ambassadors – BIBD ’Corporate Platoon’ – carried out free basic health checkups for the public to support the Ministry of Health (MoH) and PJSC.

Members of the BIBD Wellness Ambassadors also briefed on BIBD’s Psychological First Aid (PFA) initiative to raise awareness of the importance of mental health and psychological well-being at the workplace.

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Chairman of the BIBD Board of Directors and Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar visited the exhibition booth.

BIBD Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Junaidi bin Haji Masri and members of the senior management team were also present.

The BIBD ’Corporate Platoon’ was set up in August 2022 as a support group to the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society (BRC) and will be involved in offering humanitarian assistance and volunteering, as well as health and wellness activities in the nation and also acts as an auxiliary agent or support to BRC in executing missions or tasks on Basic First Aid and Life Saving.

Platoon members comprised 30 bank’s employees who are certified members and certified first aiders and have completed intensive training recognised by the Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA).

The Occupational First Aid Certification Training (OFAC) and a first-of-its-kind Wellness Training Programme in the Sultanate, are certified by the MoH.

BIBD’s participation and support reflect the bank’s strong commitment and readiness to serve the country in various aspects, including initiatives that look after the health and wellness of the people, in line with BIBD’s foundational values of Maqasid Shariah.

It also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), specifically SDG 3 (Ensuring Healthy Lives and Promoting Well-being For All At All Ages).

BIBD Wellness Programme has also benefitted participants in understanding and detecting underlying health conditions.
