AFP – The Korean beauty, or K-beauty trend has been inundating our social media platforms for several years now, and there’s no sign of it slowing down.
While South Korean cosmetics have become essential for many consumers, one product has captured particular attention: sunscreens.
A quick glance at the Internet, especially on social media, reveals the widespread influence of the K-beauty phenomenon. Its global success, partially attributed to the popularity of K-pop and its flawless-skinned idols, is undeniable.
According to some beauty enthusiasts, a key factor contributing to their idols’ radiant skin is sunscreen. But not just any sunscreen – South Korean sunscreens boast unique qualities not typically found elsewhere in the world.
Reportedly, South Korean sunscreen not only shields the skin from harmful UV rays but also provides additional skincare benefits. With a plethora of “made in Korea” options available, there’s a sunscreen suited for every skin type.
But South Korean sun creams are also very popular with cosmetics enthusiasts because they don’t leave a white finish on the skin.
The ideal way to avoid compromising your makeup, while ensuring that your epidermis is protected from external aggressions.
A BEAUTY ESSENTIAL
While many people associate sunscreen with summer vacations, it’s highly recommended to apply it before every outing.
Because sunscreen doesn’t just help protect the skin from sunburn. It also limits premature skin aging, and therefore the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also prevents visible skin damage (like brown spots), especially for people with darker skins.
That’s why it’s important to apply sunscreen every day, even on cloudy days and in winter.
For a truly protective effect, it’s important to apply two milligrammes of sun protection per square centimetre of skin. This corresponds to two teaspoons, or half a tablespoon, for the whole face (including ears, neck and nape).
WHERE CAN YOU FIND K-BEAUTY PRODUCTS?
While some Korean brands such as Erborian, Laneige and Dr Jart+ have succeeded in establishing themselves in stores like Sephora, it can sometimes be tricky to find the K-beauty products you see on the web.
But such is the demand for these cosmetics that in addition to all the online ecommerce sites, there are now several dedicated boutiques in cities around the world.
Some of these have even become so successful that they have had to close temporarily due to stock shortages.
