Sungkai treats for orphans

Orphans and underprivileged individuals were treated to sungkai by various organisations and companies recently as part of initiatives to give back to the community during the holy month of Ramadhan.

Thirty one orphans registered with the Community Development Department (JAPEM) were treated to sungkai by Lanes Hotel in the Tutong District to give back to the community.

The children also received green packets and care packages to help them celebrate Hari Raya.

Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud was the guest of honour.

Also present were the Director of Lanes Hotel Daniel Wong, members of JAPEM and representatives from the Tutong District Office.

Meanwhile, Radio Television Brunei (RTB) and Stoneville Hotel and Restaurant in the Temburong District hosted 38 orphans for sungkai.

Acting Director of RTB Haji Azman bin Haji Abdul Rahim and Managing Director of Stoneville Hotel Chieng Chiew Ann also handed over donations to the orphans. The event is an activity under the Jalinan Kasih project, which began in 2009 to help underprivileged families in the four districts.

In the Belait District, Brunei Shell Recreation Club (BSRC) hosted 29 underprivileged and orphaned students from Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Religious School for sungkai.

The event was part of the club’s corporate social responsibility to support the Seria community. The students also received donations from the club.

McDonald’s Brunei and the Junction provided refreshments and souvenirs. BSRC President Mohd Ashraf bin Haji Mohd Esa was present.
