Two local youth are attending the 4th ASEAN-India Youth Summit in Hyderabad, Telangana in India from February 12 to 16.

Brunei Youth Council’s (BYC) Executive Secretary-General, Muhammad Alif bin Mursidi and BYC Deputy Treasurer, Muhammad Wa’ie Al-Syafiq bin Mohammad Shafiee are joined by five fellow youth – Amar Syahirah binti Haji Abdul Murad, Muhammad Syazwan Asnawi Rosman, Muhammad Zahirul Aniq bin Supri, Nur Hazirah binti Mohd Sufian and Nurul Izyan binti Anver.

The participants shared the Sultanate’s history, food, traditional culture and customs, sports and latest developments as well as several renowned landmarks during the introductory session.

Muhammad Wa’ie said the summit gives youth an opportunity to expand their knowledge, foster ties and mutual understanding with youth from the region, and learn about the languages, lifestyles, traditions, current developments of other ASEAN countries.

At the summit, the youth learn about the region through programmes and events such as cultural visits.

A Brunei delegate briefing on the hot spots of the Sultanate

The summit serves as a platform for young leaders to engage in dialogues and explore new initiatives to enhance political and security, economic, socio cultural and cross pillar cooperation and create a vision for wider regional partnerships to tackle security and economic issues.

Indian Minister for Culture, Tourism and Development of North Eastern Region (DONER), G Kishan Reddy officiated the opening ceremony of the summit revolving around the theme strengthening ASEAN-India Partnership.

The summit is joined by over 150 youth from ASEAN countries and India to discuss ways to improve cooperation on various fronts such as good governance and regional development, digital partnerships for the 21st Century, ASEAN-India connectivity, and shared cultural ethos and promotion of people-to-people Ties.

Exchange programmes play a significant role in raising awareness among young leaders of their peers’ cultures, politics, societies, and traditions.

The programme also fosters ASEAN-India connectivity as well as addresses the 2021 – 2025 Plan of Action to Implement the ASEAN-India Partnership for Peace, Progress and Shared Prosperity.
