Sultanate to observe Aidiladha on July 10

With the consent of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Muslims in the Sultanate will observe the first day of Zulhijjah tomorrow.

In view of this, the Hari Raya Aidiladha, which falls on the 10th of Zulhijjah, will be celebrated on July 10, announced Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman.

Muslims in the Sultanate will perform Sunnat Hari Raya Aidiladha prayers and recite the Takbir in the morning, and performing Korban will start on the 10th of Zulhijjah until 11th, 12th and 13th of the Tasyrik dates.

The announcement was made following moon-sighting held in different vantage points across the country yesterday to determine the start of the Zulhijjah month in the Islamic calendar.

The moon-sightings were held at Tanjung Batu in Pekan Muara and Bukit Agok for Brunei-Muara District; Bukit Ambog for Tutong District; and Bukit Lumut for Belait District.

Members from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) were assigned to sight the new moon of Zulhijjah, including representatives from Syariah Court Judges and officers from the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) and the State Mufti’s Office, with cooperation from the Survey Department.

The announcement was also broadcast on Radio Television Brunei (RTB) last evening.

While waiting for the result, a religious event was held at Multaqa Hall, which saw the recitation of Al-Quran verses led by Category C winner of the National Level Al-Quran Memorisation and its Understanding Competition for 1443 Hijrah/2022 Ahmad Darwish bin Hamdan.
