Sultan welcomes greater South Korean investment in meeting with President Yoon

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, on Friday attended a Bilateral Meeting with President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk-Yeol, at Lima Convention Center in Lima, Republic of Peru.

Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.

During the Bilateral Meeting, His Majesty in a titah, expressed pleasure that Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Korea (R.O.K.) continue to enjoy warm and long-standing ties in areas of strategic interest and the new areas of information technology and agriculture. As Brunei Darussalam and R.O.K. celebrate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations, His Majesty expressed confidence that the two countries will continue to work closely together towards deepening the friendship and cooperation between people and countries, and further believed that there are many opportunities to deepen cooperation in ICT, including Smart Cities.

On bilateral relations, His Majesty welcomed more Korean investors as R.O.K. is an important trading partner, in which the close collaboration in various investment projects has brought economic benefits.

In addition, His Majesty also emphasised the importance of safeguarding common interests, especially in food security, therefore Brunei Darussalam is keen to further deepen economic linkages in agriculture through the BIMP-EAGA R.O.K. Cooperation Fund.

Lastly, His Majesty expressed appreciation for Korea’s continued support through the scholarships and training programmes in fostering closer relations between the people of both countries.

In ending the titah, His Majesty extended best wishes to the Republic of Korea in hosting APEC in 2025.

Diplomatic relations between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Korea were established on 1st January 1984, in which both countries cooperate extensively in various areas including economic, education, infrastructure, ICT and people-to-people exchanges.
