Sultan reshuffles cabinet, appoints first woman cabinet minister

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam today announced several key changes in his cabinet in a reshuffle, including the introduction of new faces to several ministerial portfolios.

In a special titah broadcast on Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB) from Istana Nurul Iman this afternoon, His Majesty announced the new appointments, transfers and retention of ministers in his cabinet.

His Majesty is retaining the position of Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Minister of Finance and Economy and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah is retaining the position of Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa bin Pehin Datu Perdana Manteri Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Ibrahim is retaining his position as the Special Advisor to His Majesty and Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof has been appointed as the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), replacing Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud.

Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abd Rahman has been appointed as the Minister of Home Affairs, replacing Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong.

Dato Seri Paduka Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin has been appointed as Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, replacing Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong.

Dato Paduka Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji A Rashid has been appointed as Minister of Development, replacing Dato Seri Setia Ir. Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar

Datin Seri Paduka Dr. Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh has been appointed as Minister of Education, replacing Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman.

Pengiran Hj Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Haji Mustapha has been appointed as Minister of Transport and Infocommunications, replacing Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib Bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof.

Awang Hj Nazmi bin Hj Mohamad has been appointed as Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, replacing Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin.

Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan has been appointed as Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, replacing Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar.

Mohd Riza Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunos has been appointed as Deputy Minister at the PMO.

Dato Paduka Awang Haji Sufian bin Haji Sabtu has been appointed as Deputy Minister at the PMO.

Brigadier General Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Abdul Razak bin Haji Abdul Kadir has been appointed as Deputy Minister of Defence.

Awang Haji Kharuddin bin Haji Abd Hamid has been appointed as Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy.

Pengiran Hjh Zety Sufina binti Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Sani has been appointed as Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy.

Meanwhile, Minister of Relgious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman; Minister at the PMO and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah; Second Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof; Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Md Isham Bin Haji Jaafar and Deputy Minister at the Energy Department of the PMO Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw are retaining their positions.

All appointments are for a four-year term effective 7 June 2022.
