His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, on Tuesday received in audience Minister of Defence, Republic of Indonesia Lieutenant General TNI (Purn.) Dr. Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin. The Audience Ceremony took place at Istana Nurul Iman.
Accompanying the Minister of Defence, Republic of Indonesia were Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Brunei Darussalam Professor Dr. Achmad Ubaedillah, and senior officials from the Ministry of Defence, Republic of Indonesia.
Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Indonesia have fostered close and cordial bilateral relations, underpinned by more than four decades of strong diplomatic engagement. One of the significant milestones in these relations was the establishment of defence cooperation, formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation on 10 April 2003.
Both countries have continued to enhance their bilateral military relations through various forms of cooperation, including exchanges in high-level visits, Joint Defence Working Committee (JDWC) and BRUNESIA High Level Committee meetings, joint military exercises, exchanges of course programs, and actively participates in multilateral cooperation such as the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM).
This marks the first visit to Brunei Darussalam by Lieutenant General TNI (Purn.) Dr. Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin since his appointment as Minister of Defence on 21 October 2024. The delegation departed from Brunei Darussalam on the evening of 15 April 2025.
