Sultan meets Chinese President

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam held a bilateral meeting with President of China Xi Jinping at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Bangkok yesterday.

Accompanying His Majesty to the session was His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.

His Majesty and President Xi discussed matters of mutual interest in strengthening the long-standing bilateral relationship between the two countries.

His Majesty conveyed his congratulations to President Xi on his appointment as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on October 25.

During the meeting, His Majesty stated that Brunei Darussalam values the long-standing relationship with China.

The two countries will celebrate the 5th Year of Strategic Cooperative Partnership in 2023 and highlighted that there are vast opportunities to be explored together.

The economic linkages have continued to strengthen Brunei’s diversification efforts, which created employment opportunities and improved skill-sets of the peoples.

Diplomatic relations between Brunei Darussalam and China were established on September 30, 1991, where both countries have close and friendly relations through cooperation in the fields of trade and investment, agriculture and fisheries, defence, education, people to people, tourism and culture, and youth and sports.

The relationship between Brunei Darussalam and China was elevated to a Strategic Cooperative Partnership during President Xi’s state visit to the Sultanate on November 19, 2018.
