The Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) celebrated the graduation of 234 students during its 13th convocation ceremony at the International Convention Centre, Berakas yesterday.
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Chancellor of KUPU SB presented certificates to the graduates.
On arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Chief Syar’ie Judge Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar and Ra’es of KUPU SB Dr Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, led by State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, followed by a mass recitation of Asmaa’ Ul-Husna, singing of the national anthem, followed by a mass recitation of Surah Al-Ahqaf, verses 13 to 16 and hadith by the graduates.
Dr Haji Adanan, in his welcoming speech, said various efforts have been made to further strengthen the university’s curriculum and co-curriculum activities to meet the current needs in the job market. He continued, “The Faculty of Social Science Education has carried out discussions with several foreign universities to offer new courses, including technopreneurship, physical education and health and digital entrepreneurship.”
The Faculty of Usuluddin, meanwhile, will be offering two minor courses namely Al-Quran and hadith, and contemporary issues.
In further building the students’ credibility, a number of Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) courses are also in the pipeline, the Ra’es shared.
He shared that KUPU SB will collaborate with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education to hold roadshows and training of trainer’s workshop to enhance mental health in line with the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
Out of 234 graduates, three completed the Doctor of Philosophy in Religious Teaching in Arabic Language and Education; 11 graduates with Master Degree in Religious Teaching of Islamic Education, Syariah and Usuluddin; 53 graduated in Postgraduate Diploma with Religious Teaching; and eight graduates with Diploma in Religious Teaching.
Another 71 graduates received their Bachelor’s Degree in Islamic Studies, 76 with Higher Diploma in Religious Teaching of Islamic Education, and 12 received diplomas in specific fields. – Rokiah Mahmud
