Sultan arrives in Australia

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on Sunday arrived in Canberra to hold a state visit to Australia from June 19 to 21.

Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.

Upon arrival at Fairbairn Airbase, His Majesty was welcomed by Paul Singer MVO, representative of His Excellency Governor-General of Australia; Kristy McBain, representative of The Honourable Prime Minister of Australia; and High Commissioner of Australia to Brunei Darussalam Luke Arnold.

Also present to greet His Majesty on arrival were Minister of Foreign Affairs II Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof and High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Australia Garry Ramlee bin Ibrahim.

Diplomatic relations between Brunei Darussalam and Australia were established on May 5, 1984, in which both countries share close cooperation in a number of areas including the fields of education, trade and investment, defence, connectivity and people-to-people exchanges, as seen through a series of past state visits to Australia in 2005 and 2013, as well as His Majesty’s last visit to Australia to attend the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Sydney in March 2018.
