Sultan announces changes in civil service recruitment process

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam announced that the civil service recruitment process will now be handled by Ministries, particularly for divisions two (B2) and below, replacing the Public Service Commission.

His Majesty made the announcement during a titah at the 30th Civil Service Day celebration at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas on Tuesday.

This strategic change, His Majesty said, aims to enhance accountability and expedite the filling of vacant positions through the utilisation of the Public Service Recruitment System or PSCR.

His Majesty in the titah also urged public servants to foster innovation for improved work processes, regulations, and delivery systems. Effective leadership, particularly in harnessing digital technology’s potential, was highlighted as crucial for transformative service delivery.

His Majesty also stressed that the integrity of the civil service is essential, emphasising the need for clean, trustworthy, and effective public service.

His Majesty further announced amendments to the Civil Service General Orders, which are set to be enforced to ensure alignment with current requirements while maintaining fairness and transparency in all actions.

In addition to these changes, His Majesty also proclaimed Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam as ‘Tokoh Jasawan Negara’ (National Prominent Figure) during the ceremony.
