BANGKOK (ANN/THE NATION) – It seems even elephants have a sweet tooth! A mischievous pachyderm caused quite a stir on Highway No. 3076 in Chachoengsao province on Wednesday, targeting unsuspecting trucks laden with freshly cut sugarcane and tapioca.
The clever elephant, apparently a connoisseur of sweet treats, took advantage of its size and strength, blocking half of the roadway and forcing drivers to come to a complete halt. With a mischievous glint in its eye (we imagine), the elephant proceeded to help itself to a delectable feast, much to the bemusement of the bewildered truck drivers.
Officials from Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary, where the incident occurred, quickly issued a set of guidelines for motorists. “Drive slow, be patient, and don’t honk!” they advised. “This elephant clearly knows what it wants, and we don’t want to upset our four-legged friend.”
The sanctuary also reminded drivers that feeding wild animals is strictly prohibited. “Let’s just say,” an official quipped, “the elephant already has a rather generous meal plan.”
This incident, while unusual, serves as a gentle reminder that humans and wildlife must coexist peacefully. And perhaps, it also serves as a valuable lesson for truck drivers: always be prepared for the unexpected, especially when driving through elephant country.
