Some 46 students and 12 instructors from the School of Energy and Engineering, Institute of Brunei Technical Education Mechanical Campus made an educational visit to GHK Auto Assembly Sdn Bhd in Serasa, Muara yesterday.
They were welcomed by GHK Motors marketing team members Ahmad Faezul Imtiaz bin Adam and Muhd Nuur Siraaj bin Haji Muhd Rosanan. The visitors also toured the assembly building guided by plant supervisor Muhammad Rifdini bin Gani.
They were also briefed on the services offered to clients with students also engaging with industry professionals, engineers and technicians on site.
The students also received insights on how vehicles which have met with accidents are repaired including automotive body repair, automotive parts replacement and vehicle body spray painting as well as surface preparation and coating for vehicles.
Speaking to the Bulletin, automotive student Mohammad Alif Ridawdin bin Aliuddin said educational industry visits should be encouraged to provide a hands-on knowledge for students.
“The visit was very insightful as the guide was informative and shared his experience in venturing into this career.
“It provided me an idea of what job I can aim for. My focus now is to complete my studies and look for whatever job I can find, but of course my priority would be a job related to my background.”
Dayangku Nurin Azrina binti Pengiran Mohd Jasri chose the automotive programme due to her curiosity in seeing the rising number of students choosing the programme turning her curiosity into interest.
She said, the visit gave her a more hands-on knowledge and exposure, and gave her ideas for her job hunt. “We are also in the process of setting up our own workshop at the campus.
“As for now we will apply whatever we learnt from this auto assembly in setting up our own workshop. From there I hope it will help me make the right decision when I complete my studies.”
She added she is aware that it can be a challenge being a female applicant in the automotive industry, but believes it can be resolved through effort, determination and commitment in delivering what is expected from the employee regardless of gender.
Meanwhile, Muara Port Company Sdn Bhd (MPC) hosted a delegation of six teachers and 20 students from the Faculty of Information Technology (FIT), Kolej International Graduate Studies (Kolej IGS) on an educational visit to the Muara Port Terminal yesterday. The visit was organised to inspire and improve the students’ understanding of IT projects and technology in the modern world and in professional settings.
MPC Chief Operation Officer (COO) Fazilah bin Haji Yassin welcomed the visitors led by FIT’s IT deparment faculty head Siti Nasyroh binti Md Nayan. The FIT students visited the Muara Conventional Terminal (MCVT) and Muara Container Terminal (MCT) where they saw the cutting-edge IT systems employed by MPC to streamline operations and facilitate efficient workflow management.
The visitors also observed how IT was integrated into various processes at Muara International Fish Landing (MIFL) and engaged with industry experts, acquiring knowledge and real-world experience. – Lyna Mohamad
