Students to explore halal industry during Malaysia visit

Twenty-seven Bachelor of Halal Science students and two lecturers from the Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre (PPHT) at Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) left for Malaysia yesterday for a five-day study tour.

The programme, which ends on September 22, aims to provide exposure to students in addition to sharing ideas on the development of an increasingly competitive halal industry. The visit is in line with PPHT’s mission to become a strong research centre of international standards.

The programme includes visits to six organisations: Academy of Contemporary Islamic Studies at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM); International Institute for Halal Research and Training (INHART) at International Islamic University of Malaysia (UIAM); Management and Science University (MSU); Halal Development Corporation Berhad (HDC); Nippon Express (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and Northport (Malaysia) Berhad.

They are also scheduled to hold a session to share knowledge, information and research data from Brunei Darussalam with the Academy of Contemporary Islamic Studies.

A presentation will be delivered by Raihana binti Mohd Raffi on ‘Brunei’s Approach to Halal Tourism and Hospitality Industry Through MESRA Campaign’, while Halalan Thayyiban Student Society’s Awangku Muhammad Arshrul Waie bin Pengiran Amirrulzam and Muhammad Ikram Mirza bin Haji Sufri will deliver a presentation on ‘Challenges in the Halal Food Ecosystem’. – Azlan Othman
