It is important that momentous occasions such as the 40th National Day is properly celebrated, said St James School acting principal Joseph Beriso Sarmiento during the school’s National Day celebration yesterday, featuring a myriad of performances and activities.
“Today we will witness the patriotism of our students showcased through the performances that they spent weeks preparing,” he added.
He expressed hopes that the event had further enlivened the celebration as well as instilling a sense of pride in commemorating the nation’s independence.
The celebration continued with performances which included the Most Elegant Costume Parade for Year 1 students, a stage play by Year 3 students, a song performance Brunei Bumi Bertuah by Years 9 and 10 students and Berkibarlah Bendera by Year 5 students.
Quizzes were also carried out to test the knowledge of the nation and its history among the students.
The event also saw students decorating their bicycles in line with the theme of the National Day celebration, with prizes handed to owners of the best three bicycles.
The day concluded with a marching parade by the school’s scout members. – Daniel Lim
