Tinkerbell Learning School held its annual United Nations Day celebration in conjunction with Children’s Day at its premises, themed ‘Tastes of the World’.
After two years of extra-curricular disruption caused by the pandemic, it was an occasion to revive some festive normality by showcasing food from different countries and how its culture is reflected in the cuisine.
Ten countries were selected: the pre-school prepared cuisine from the United States, Saudi Arabia and Australia; lower primary prepared food from China, Japan and Korea along with a cooking display; while upper primary prepared food from Brunei, Philippines, Samoa and India.
The children were dressed in costumes of many nations, while teachers dressed in the familiar clothing of the countries representing the cuisine. As the children ‘flew across the world’ to sample the food from each display station, they presented their ‘boarding pass’ and a greeting in the language of that country.
Popular music of each country along with cooking aromas created a vibrant festive atmosphere, providing a welcome relieve from the restrictions of the past two years.
