Thirty participants comprising eight staff members and 22 HnTec in Instrumentation and Control Engineering students at the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Sultan Bolkiah Campus (SBC) visited the Peliunan Park in the Temburong District to hone their survival skills recently.

IBTE SBC Industrial Relations Officer Hajah Salenawati binti Haji Mohd Saji led the students and staff to gain an understanding of camping and outdoor equipment. Hajah Salenawati said among the activities included a demonstration on cooking chicken and fish in a bamboo.

“The activities introduced survival skills such as identifying types of river fish and edible plants, as well as properly cooking using the surrounding environment,” said Hajah Salenawati.

The activities were carried out with assistance from the park management, who also guided them throughout their visit. The group was also planted saplings and learnt about the importance of biodiversity and the culture of the local community.

The programme concluded with the presentation of a certificate of appreciation to park manager Haji Asrul Saniy bin Mohd Aarif. – Daniel Lim
