Students ‘plog’ through 250kg of waste in beach clean-up

Some 271 kilogrammes of trash were collected during the Beach Plogging Clean-up Project at Muara Beach organised by 11 students from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) on Sunday.

The team comprised engineering, business and digital science students and called themselves ‘Plocka’, as “plogging” is the act of jogging while picking up trash, said team leader Abdul Rahim bin Haji Shufian. Participant Mohammad Ashraf Nursal said the event offered a unique take on beach clean-ups – picking up trash while treasure hunting – giving it a “cool twist”.

“The concept of plogging was a nice touch as participants could jog while cleaning the beach. I hope there will be more like it,” he said.

The project, which saw 61 participants, was part of the students’ UBD management modules, in collaboration with the Ashabul Halim Youth Club of Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Malik Mosque.
