Students, office workers learn about fire safety

A fire and building evacuation drill was held at Puni Primary School in Temburong District yesterday, while Readymix Concrete (B) Sdn Bhd officers and staff underwent a three-day fire marshal course.

The drill at the primary school included a training scenario involving a fire in one of the school’s classrooms.

Some 96 teachers, students and staff took part in the drill organised by the school and the Fire and Rescue Department’s (FRD) Public Relations Division Operation ‘G’ Branch, Temburong District. The training aimed to foster a sense of responsibility for fire safety as well as teaching the correct procedure to save oneself during a fire.

The drill is conducted at least twice a year to ensure effective and systematic procedures.
Commanding Officer of Operation ‘G’ Branch SSFR Haji Afiq bin Haji Julah, and Deputy Station Commander of Bangar Fire Station ASO Ahmad bin Haji Kassim were present at the training.

Meanwhile, 18 Readymix officers and staff members underwent a three-day fire marshall course at the FRD headquarters, conducted by FRD’s Public Relations Unit of the Operations ‘A’ Branch.

Participants were taught the theory and the practice of investigating fire incidents, systematic evacuation of buildings, correct usage of fire extinguishers and fire blankets as well as how to self evacuate in the event of being trapped in a building during a fire.

Participants also a toured the FRD Headquarters.

FRD provides safety programmes, such as the fire marshal course, Live Saver 995 and fire safety briefing, to teach the public how to deal with emergencies involving fires and the correct use of fire extinguishers.
