Seven students and a chaperone who participated in a recent Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS) programme in Japan returned to the Sultanate yesterday.
The Bruneian delegation comprised Year 9 and Year 10 students from four government schools – Mohammad Luqman Al-Hakim bin Haji Abdul Mukti from Rimba 2 Secondary School; Nur Najibah Izzati binti Haji Ali Rahman from Sayyidina Umar Al-Khattab Secondary School; Sofiyya Najihah binti Haji Abdul Aziz @ Azis from Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Masna Secondary School; and Nuraliyah Afifah binti Zulkifli from Sayyidina Hussain Secondary School; and three private schools – Akid Ukail @ Ean Mikael bin Edi Farhan from Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Secondary School, Nur Fathin Syuhaidah binti Syamsul from Seri Mulia Sarjana Secondary School and Ang Chin Gui from Chung Hwa Middle School.
Jalilah binti Haji Jali from Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Masna Secondary School accompanied the students during the nine-day programme, coordinated by the Ministry of Education.
During the programme, each student was placed in four groups and mixed with students from other ASEAN member countries and Timor Leste namely the Aichi Prefecture, Aomori Prefecture, Hiroshima Prefecture, and Tochigi Prefecture.
Each group was also given a theme to explore such as ‘Environmental Prevention and Energy’, ‘Manufacturing and Science Technologies’, ‘Medical and Social Welfare’ and ‘Internet and Education’.
The ‘Reporting Session Closing Ceremony’ in Tokyo on Tuesday was attended by representatives from embassies of the ASEAN member countries and Timor Leste.
First Secretary of the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam to Japan Amir bin Ismail attended the ceremony where delegates presented the findings from the programme and proposed action plans for their countries.
