Students looking forward to experiencing Japanese culture

Five Bruneian students left for a week-long study trip to Japan to explore its culture and meet Japanese students while promoting the Sultanate.

Selina Khoo Shee Ping, Elza Batrisyia binti Zainolhizad, Nur Rahmah binti Haji Awang Zulkifli, Nurul Hasyimah binti Haji Metussin from Universiti Teknologi Brunei and Afifatul Husna binti Ismail from Universiti Brunei Darussalam left the Sultanate on Saturday.

Selina Khoo, in an interview, said, “I want to join the programme as I wish to learn more about the Japanese culture as I am interested in anime. I feel that visiting Japan as a tourist and as a student are two different things. As a student, you can have a deeper understanding of a foreign culture.”

She added, “We will be heading to Rikkyo University and interact with Japanese students.

They will also be able to understand more about us and Brunei. We will also deliver a presentation on Brunei during our visit.”

Meanwhile, Afifatul Husna said, “I’m interested in the Japanese cuisine and would love to try authentic Japanese food. I also would like to experience the Japanese culture and I will cherish the opportunity provided by JBFA. I can’t wait to experience the bullet train and pick my own apples.”

Mitsubishi Corporation Brunei Liaison Office’s Assistant Manager in Business Relations Hajah Rohayati binti Haji Damit is leading the delegation.

The nine-day trip, sponsored by the Japan-Brunei Friendship Association (JBFA) will see the students visit Rikkyo University, Arakawa Clean Centre, Marue Kanko Noen (apple picking and all-you-can-eat) and Sendai 311 Memorial Community Centre.
