Abstinence is key to lowering sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and avoid unwanted pregnancy, said Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Awareness Programme for Peers and Youth (HAPPY) coordinator and Brunei Darussalam AIDS Council (BDAIDSCouncil) executive committee member Siti Kailene binti Jazlan Kashfi.

She said this during a talk for 71 Lambak Kiri Secondary School students yesterday.

She also shared STIs and teen pregnancy statistics with the students.

The event aimed to encourage learning among students’ and hoped they apply new knowledge in their daily lives.

HAPPY is a youth-led project to spread HIV awareness and related issues using audio and visual elements with interactive activities.
