International School Brunei (ISB) students paid an educational visit to the Department of Councils of State yesterday.
Some 104 students, including Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda Muhammad Aiman ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, learnt the function and role of the Legislative Council (LegCo) as well as legal procedures carried out during LegCo meetings.
The students were also briefed on the LegCo’s history, such as its establishment prior to the country’s independence and its re-establishment in 2004.
The students also toured the meeting hall as well as participated in a mock debate session.
The session introduced the students to the procedure of presenting a bill, raising proposals and ways of expressing favour or objection to proposals.
The session was aimed at building the students’ confidence and public speaking skills. – Lyna Mohamad
