Year 9 and 10 students from Raja Isteri Girls High School (STPRI) celebrated ‘Green Day’ recently, a programme to learn about the cause, effect and solutions of climate change.
The two-and-a-half day programme focused on the fundamentals of climate change and how to live more sustainably.
Students also took part in workshops on recycling and repurposing used plastic materials while learning how waste can negatively impact the environment.
Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology (CCCT) CEO Daniel Kumar, said the college sees the need to step up and support the fight for climate change, as it aligns with its value of nurturing well rounded future leaders in Brunei beyond classrooms. CCCT was a sponsor of the programme.
Ten secondary schools were selected to participate, with STPRI being the sixth. Others included Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Masna, Sayyidina Abu Bakar, Berakas, Rimba I and Pengiran Isteri Hajjah Mariam Serasa secondary schools.
Programme curator Curious Mind noted that the goal of ‘Green Day’ is to educate secondary level students to empower them in spreading the word on the urgency of action on climate change to their families and lead the younger students to be more environmentally aware and responsible. – Lyna Mohamad
