Jerudong International School (JIS) in partnership with Poni Divers and LAUT Brunei conducted its second Discovery Reef Ball session as part of the JIS Reef Ball Programme.
The initiative underscores the school’s commitment to marine conservation and Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water.
The programme engaged 20 students and five staff members, who collectively deployed 20 reef balls and propagated 84 coral plugs.
A team of seven divers from JIS, comprising both teachers and youth divers, participated in coral planting on the reef balls, gaining hands-on experience in proper planting techniques.
A Year 13 student who took part in the inaugural discovery programme in Brunei in November 2023, Nisa Rajid expressed her excitement: “This is my second time participating and I’m thrilled to see that the reef balls we planted are now thriving.”
Her remarks highlight the tangible benefits of the restoration efforts.
“JIS continues to promote environmental awareness and responsibility among its students, aligning with global sustainability goals,” the school said in a statement.
