Five students from Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Secondary School in Lumut, Belait District, will represent Brunei at the Youth Ambassador Programme for World Tsunami Awareness Day 2024 in Kumamoto, Japan, from October 19 to 25.

The delegation, accompanied by teacher Kho Pei Jing, include Adyshah Na’im bin Zamri, Muhammad Azim bin Zaini, Muhammad Wa’ie Danish bin Mohammad Fadillah, Baddtrishya Arlyenna binti Muhammad Shah Adieman and Nur Aleya Afrina binti Alizai.

Acting Director of Schools at the Ministry of Education Hamidah binti Daud along with First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam Jun Takimoto were present at the Brunei International Airport to bid farewell to the delegation.

During the seven-day programme, the students will engage in interactive sessions with Japanese secondary school students, participate in discussions on disaster prevention and risk reduction, and present the Sultanate’s action plans for disaster management at the High School Student Summit.

The students will also take part in various activities, including the planting of a commemorative tree, symbolising a shared commitment to disaster risk reduction. They will also gain insights into Japan’s disaster prevention strategies.

The event aims to raise awareness about natural disasters and empower youth as future leaders in disaster preparedness. – Fadley Faisal
