    Students head to Singapore for Asian youth camp

    Six students from Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre yesterday headed for the Sunburst Youth Camp (SYC) held at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Campus in Singapore from December 4-10.

    The students are Muhammad Syafizal bin Su’eif; Mohd Adeeb Amsyah Aizuddin bin Haji Ajmaruddin; Md Hasif Naqiuddin bin Md Ahsanul Azmi; Nur Qistina binti Bujang; Jasmine Pong Jing Wen; and Nurhanisah binti Muhammad Hannan @ Evelyn Farisha Han Fu Eng.

    Their participation is coordinated by the Ministry of Education through the Department of Schools.

    Teachers Pengiran Muhd Abdul Latif bin Pengiran Haji Hamzah and Lim Hsiu Hui are accompanying the students at the camp.

    “We had a great time preparing for our performances and exhibition and are eager to showcase them,” said Muhammad Syafizal. He added that they were looking forward to networking and learning about other cultures and legends from other participants.

    The SYC is a gathering of youth from all over Asia, including Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam for a week in Singapore.

    Themed ‘Legends’, it aims to provide participants with an opportunity to interact with one another, in the hope that they can establish lasting friendships and increase a better understanding of different points of view.

    The Bruneian delegation will participate in activities including a poster presentation at a public library, setting up of an exhibition booth showcasing Brunei’s culture and legends and a short performance for the closing ceremony.

    The participants will also visit notable places such as the ArtScience Museum, Sentosa Island, VivoCity and Lee Foundation Theatre. – Adib Noor
