Three students from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) recently departed for Doha, Qatar, to participate in the International Universities Debate Championship (IUDC), organised by the Qatar Foundation.
Filzah Afiqah binti Chuchu and Nur Nawwarah binti Ewardy from the Faculty of Arabic Language and Muhammad Kamal Shukri bin Mohamad Kamal from the Faculty of Islamic Development Management are the participating students.
The championship began on May 25 and concludes tomorrow. “The competitions will allow the students to gain knowledge, practise communication skills, and develop critical-thinking abilities in a short period of time.
“Each team is given only a few minutes in the Arabic language to formulate and build their case and complete their arguments on a given topic,” said the university in a statement.
Throughout the competition, participants debate themes such as technology, security, international politics, social issues, economics and the environment. – Rokiah Mahmud
