Students get a taste of Japan

Twenty students from Jerudong International School (JIS) is having a taste of Japan as part of the school’s enrichment week.

Activity leader Andy McCulloch shared that this was the fifth time the enrichment programme included a session on Japanese language and culture.

He said that during the four days of the programme, students learnt Japanese language and culture, working closely with the Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam.

Yesterday, the students were at the residence of Japanese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Maeda Toru to learn how to make makizushi from the chef to the ambassador Chef Shimizu.

Makizushi, in particular, is popular among the Brunei public.

McCulloch said they were thankful to be able to hold the programme this year, the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. “The embassy said they are very keen to be involved and have been amazingly helpful,” he said.

Other activities included origami and trying on Japanese clothes. – Lyna Mohamad
