More than 1,000 students from Year 1 to Year 6 of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Primary School (SR YSHHB) attended the school’s Israk Mikraj celebration, held in two separate sessions on Thursday.
The event aimed to instill awareness of the significance of Isra’ Mikraj among students and encourage them to reflect on its lessons, particularly the importance of prayer in Islam.
The guest speaker, Awang Muhammad Yussof Hj Abd Majid, a Special Duties Officer from the Counselling and Religious Understanding Division at the Department of Syariah Affairs, Ministry of Religious Affairs, delivered a talk titled The Miraculous Journey of Isra and Mikraj.
The event was officiated by SR YSHHB Principal Hajah Hafizah binti Haji Salat, and attended by the school’s deputy principal and teachers.
For students in the upper primary level (Years 4-6), the event began with a recitation of Surah Yassin, followed by Quranic recitations, the special talk, and an Israk Mikraj-themed quiz. A doa selamat was led by Muhd Syazwanshah Bin Haji Razali.
Meanwhile, lower primary students (Years 1-3) participated in a video screening on Isra’ Mikraj, followed by a quiz session and a doa selamat led by Mohd Zainolkhairulariffin Bin Hj Abas.
The speaker’s talk highlighted key lessons from Isra’ Mikraj, emphasising that prayer is a divine gift from Allah, nothing is impossible with His will, and trials in life come with wisdom and rewards. He also underscored the sacred status of Al-Aqsa Mosque and described prayer as a believer’s personal Mikraj (spiritual ascension) to connect with Allah.
The event, organised by the school’s religious department teachers, aimed to deepen students’ understanding of Israk Mikraj and reinforce their commitment to daily prayers. – Fadley Faisal
