Hundreds of students visited the Findlay International Study Fair 2024 yesterday to explore opportunities for further education overseas, following the release of A- and O-level examination results recently.
Around 600 students pre-registered for the fair that hosted representatives from universities and colleges from Australia, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States (US), according to organisers.
Among the students in attendance was Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah.
During the event, parents and students also spoke with government officials about scholarships and accreditation of university programmes.
Officers from British Council and StudyUK, Austrade’s StudyAustralia, EducationUSA and Brunei-US Association were on hand to answer questions about education and living in those countries.
Visitors to the fair also spoke with Baiduri Bank representatives on education loans and student accounts. Representatives from the Centre for British Teachers (CfBT) were also on hand to discuss English language proficiency tests.
Students also took Findlay’s Morrisby Career Profiling psychometric assessment which looks at a person’s aptitudes, interests and personality to suggest career options.
“Our vision from the very beginning was to be a one-stop experience where students can obtain information in a responsible, transparent way to help them make the best choices for them,” said Findlay Managing Director Sunita Martin.
“Hosting these fairs is one of the ways we can support our vision by making the information accessible to students and parents.”
High Commissioner of Canada to Brunei Darussalam Ambra Dickie said, “We are really happy to participate in events such as this as we have seen an increase in the number of students studying in Canada.”
She added that Canada has some of the top universities in the world and the country “is very diverse, very affordable. We hope to see more Bruneians study in Canada”.
British High Commission in Brunei Darussalam Political Officer Morgan Kimber said, “We are really excited to see Bruneians still championing the UK as premiere destination for their studies, whether it is in research, law, business or even just the cultural aspects.
He added that the UK offers not just an education, but also a wide spectrum of cultural experiences through UK student life. – Adib Noor
