Students experience hands-on learning

Some 130 Years 9 and 10 students from Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar Secondary School (SMPJNPHAB) were treated to a unique first-hand look into non-destructive testing (NDT), and their role in ensuring the safety of all fields of work during an event at the school premises yesterday.

It was organised by the school’s career department in collaboration with Reliability Services and Solutions (RSSB) Sdn Bhd, who delivered presentations to the students. SMPJNPHAB Senior Mistress Academic I Joliyah binti Haji Mohd Ali said that the event was an excellent opportunity for their students to gain insights into potential career paths and the professional world.

She added, “We are honoured to have RSSB here to give a career talk and exhibitions on what they do.”

RSSB Operation director Mohamad Azlan bin Haji Tuah and technical manager Balakrishnan Chandramohan led a presentation on the many forms and uses of NDT, including visual, penetrant, magnetic particle, radiography and ultrasonic testing. The students were then split into groups to visit the booths across the venue.

RSSB personnel also demonstrated rope access techniques, including rescue techniques in case of any emergency during the actual inspection.

During the demonstration, the students were able to try out these techniques. The event also saw the senior mistress present a token of appreciation to its managing director Elmey bin Julkeply and a representative of RSSB. – Daniel Lim
