Fifteen students from Jerudong International School (JIS) recently took part in the 57th Annual Chemistry Olympiad 2025, organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).
All 15 students who participated earned awards: two gold, 10 silver and three bronze. On a global scale, 16,216 students from around the world entered the Olympiad and only the top eight per cent achieved a gold award.
Amanda Goh and Muhamad Zaim Aqel bin Mohamad Azri both received a gold award. The silver award is given to the top 25 per cent. JIS had 10 students earn this distinction. They were Pengiran Qaiyimah Nurul Bolkiah binti Pengiran Haji Md Hakimmuddin, Gideon Chan, Rahul Dhara, Lyeenah Hamidiah Haji Abdul Hamid, Nur Alya Alisya binti Abdul Rahman, Muhammad Haris Bazly Romi Irwin, Neeha Kanan, Syifa A’leeya binti Haji Mohd Serudin, Md Shafwanul Bakri bin Haji Md Seruddin and Megan Tan.
Meanwhile, Li Jia Chong, Nadia Shasmeen binti Mohd Shahrulnizam and Marianne Sequeira were awarded bronze certificates.
Among the award recipients were several Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) scholarship students at JIS. MoRA scholarship students included Pengiran Qaiyimah Nurul Bolkiah, Nur Alya Alisya and Syifa A’leeya.
MoE scholarship students included Lyeenah Hamidiah, Md Shafwanul Bakri, Muhamad Zaim Aqel and Muhammad Haris Bazly Romi Irwin.
The Chemistry Olympiad is the UK’s leading chemistry competition for secondary school students.
It aims to challenge and inspire the most talented young chemists, pushing them to apply their understanding in abstract ways.
