Students from Bruneian educational institutions going to Canada to further their studies for the 2024-2025 academic session joined a pre-departure briefing at the Radisson Hotel on Friday.
The briefing was conducted by the High Commissioner of Canada to Brunei Darussalam Ambra Dickie.
The students will be taking undergraduate programmes at various Canadian universities, and include recipients of the Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development program, SEED.
Also attending the session were previous SEED scholars, who shared their experiences on education and life in Canada with the outgoing students.
For the 2024-2025 academic session, five students studying at Bruneian universities have been awarded SEED scholarships.
Twenty-four students from Bruneian universities have received SEED scholarships to date since the program began in Brunei in 2022.
The high commissioner said, “Canada’s post-secondary programme from both our universities and colleges are recognised worldwide, and tuition fees are among the lowest in English-speaking countries.”
She added, “Education is fundamental to advancing economic prosperity and inclusive growth, so I am especially happy to see continued growth in this sector, as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Canada-Brunei diplomatic relations this year.” – Azlan Othman
