Student qualifies for Malay Language speech finals

Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali Year 3 student Abdul Mujib bin Sh’minan qualified for the final stage of the International Malay Language Speech Competition (PABM).

Held at the Tuanku Syed Putra Hall (DTSP) of University Sains Malaysia (USM) in Penang, the competition saw representatives from Brunei, Malaysia, Uzbekistan, China, Bangladesh, Sudan and Timor-Leste compete before some 3,500 spectators.

During the semi-final competition, Abdul Mujib delivered his speech ‘Pelita Keluarga Harapan Bangsa’ and was placed third in the Alam Melayu category, winning RM5,000 cash prize.

The competition’s 15th edition was inaugurated by Malaysia’s Minister of Higher Education Dato Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

It was themed ‘Elevating the Image and Sovereignty of the Malaya Language’. – Rokiah Mahmud
