The team from Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic School emerged as champion of the finals of the ‘Menambang Syair’ Competition 2024 for secondary schools, colleges and sixth form centres.
The competition, held at the festive stage in front of the Royal Regalia Museum on Friday, also saw Sayyidina Hasan Secondary School take second place while Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Girls Arabic Religious Secondary School was placed third.
The competition aimed to expose the students to Brunei syair while developing students’ talents and appreciation in traditional poetry.Each team of three students was required to deliver a five-to-eight minute long menambang syair performance.
Senior Special Duties Officer (Professional) at the Department of Schools Haji Metussin bin Haji Jais was the guest of honour.
The competition, organised by the Arts and Creativity Division, Department of Co-Curriculum Education, Ministry of Education was held in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 78th birthday celebration. – Rokiah Mahmud
