KOTA KINABALU (ANN/THE STAR) – Members of the public came to the rescue of a student from being raped by a man in a roadside bush in Sabah’s northern Kudat district early Monday morning.
It was learned that passers-by stopped the suspect, in his 30s, at about 6am.
Kudat police chief Superintendent Mohd Haris Ibrahim said they were alerted at 7.05am.
“We detained the suspect after he was handed over by the public.
“The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code,” he said.
Superintendent Mohd Haris thanked the people for helping to nab the suspect.
He also advised the public not to share details of the case on social media as it could cause public alarm.
“Leave it to the police to investigate,” he said.
