Strong win for DPMM FC in BSL

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman attended the Brunei Super League (BSL) 2024/2025 match between DPMM FC and Jerudong FC at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim played an instrumental role in the team as captain of DPMM FC.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah and Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda Muhammad Aiman were also present.

Upon arrival, Their Royal Highnesses were greeted by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad.

During the match, Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda `Abdul Muntaqim led his side to an emphatic 5-0 win.

There was a notable figure in the starting line-up with club legend Muhammad Shahrazen Said making his return to the team after a stint with Kasuka FC.

The title contenders were frustrated in the opening half despite showing promise in the final third as Jerudong FC made it difficult to conjure a clear goal-scoring chance.

Meanwhile, Jerudong FC created a rare opening as forward Muhammad Mudza’ffar Al Arif bin Haji Abdur Rafae’a stole a march into the box but the defence shut down his advances.

DPMM FC’s foreign imports combined as Luis Matias Hernandez-Miruena delivered a cross for Sergio Mendiguchia Iglesias whose header was not enough to trouble Jerudong FC goalkeeper Romaino Maripa.

The tricky Haziq Naqiuddin Syamra has been a constant menace down the flanks and struck his shot well but Romaino dived to make the save.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim, who earned a free-kick after he was brought down from a challenge, struck a decent attempt which Romaino tipped away to safety.

The Gegar Gegar men turned on the heat as Marcelo Junior De Souza Loiola kept the opposing goalkeeper’s gloves warm after sending a rasping drive.

Jerudong FC’s resistance were finally broken as Luis Matias Hernandez-Miruena headed home into the bottom corner in the 39th minute.

Muhamad Al-Kholil @ Muhamad Hisammuddin Sapawi/Hamdan doubled the lead in the 49th minute before Sergio continued his goal-scoring streak in the 62nd minute.

Muhammad Akmal Rizal bin Muhammad Abu Bakar added a fourth in the 74th minute before Luis Matias Hernandez-Miruena compounded Jerudong FC woes with his second of the game six minutes later. – Fadhil Yunus
