I am writing to follow up on a concern previously raised regarding the inadequate waiting areas outside the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Operating Theatre (OT) at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital.
Despite earlier discussions, there appears to be no significant progress in addressing this issue.
Recently, I found myself once again waiting outside the OT, enduring not only the emotional strain of the situation but also the discomfort of constant foot traffic and unsolicited inquiries about my presence.
This lack of privacy and appropriate facilities adds unnecessary stress during already challenging times.
The current setup fails to provide a conducive environment for families awaiting critical news about their loved ones.
A dedicated, private waiting area equipped with comfortable seating and essential amenities is essential to uphold the dignity and well-being of patients’ families.
I urge the hospital administration and relevant authorities to prioritise the establishment of improved waiting facilities outside the ICU and OT.
Such an initiative would demonstrate a genuine commitment to patient-centred care and significantly enhance the hospital experience for all involved.
Waiting in vain
