State Mufti stresses on upholding essence of dakwah

State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned yesterday highlighted that dakwah is a crucial tool in addressing issues such as challenges posed by human rights groups like the modern-day Muktazillah, the LGBT movement, liberal interpretations of Islam, insulting Prophets, and instances of burning Al-Quran. These contemporary challenges underscore the necessity of dakwah, which should be supported by knowledge and proper strategies.

The State Mufti said this during the launch of a two-day international seminar on Usuluddin Education organised by Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB).

Meanwhile, in his prime paperwork, he noted that the term ‘empowerment’ has gained prominence, particularly in the economic context. He suggested that this term should also be employed in the realm of dakwah for impactful and potent communication.

The State Mufti underscored that effective dakwah is rooted in three key factors: a divine command from Allah the Almighty to engage in dakwah, the importance of conducting dakwah wisely and with good counsel, and the readiness and preparedness of da’ie (Islamic preachers) to engage in constructive dialogue with their target audience.

He emphasised that dakwah must be carried out with wisdom and good advice; without these elements, its impact and effectiveness would be limited. He acknowledged that the role of a da’ie is challenging and demanding. Despite the challenges, the obligation of dakwah must persist without interruption. The legacy of disseminating dakwah traces back to the Prophets, their companions, and subsequent generations of scholars, educators, and intellectuals.

The State Mufti stated that kindness towards humanity and the authentic introduction of Islam as the true faith are primarily achieved through dakwah. To ensure the effectiveness of dakwah, the State Mufti stressed on the need for continuous efforts and empowerment.

He suggested three primary methods for impactful and powerful dakwah: Dakwah Bil Lisan (verbal communication), Dakwah Bil Kitabah (written communication), and Dakwah Bil Hal (practical demonstration). By focusing on these methods, disseminating dakwah can resonate effectively and influence change. – Rokiah Mahmud
