Aimed at raising awareness on the importance of financial management, the ‘50 Cent Savings Challenge’ was officially launched at Bandar Seri Begawan Arabic Preparatory School yesterday.
The programme, initiated by the school in collaboration with various departments, is now in its fifth year.
Head of the Department of Malay Language Siti Anisah binti Moksin, expressed gratitude to the attendees, especially Head of Strategy, Communication and Financial Literacy at the Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB) Dayangku Sri Joedianna binti Pengiran Haji Mohammed.
She acknowledged the collaboration of multiple departments, including the Departments of Malay Language, MIB, Social Studies, Mathematics, English, and Science, in making this year’s programme possible.
The programme aims to instil good saving habits among students and emphasises the importance of budgeting. This year, the participants will focus on saving 50 cent coins, continuing the tradition of the previous year’s coin-saving initiative.
The challenge, running until October 31, is designed to encourage students to develop financial discipline and plan for a secure future.
To motivate participants, 25 awards will be given to the students with the most creative coin banks, alongside three awards for teachers and staff.
The students’ parents have also sponsored 25 extra prizes for the students.
“We hope this initiative fosters a culture of saving that will become ingrained in the students’ daily lives,” said Siti Anisah, emphasising the long-term benefits of financial literacy for the community.
