COLOMBO (XINHUA) – Sri Lanka’s Export Development Board (EDB) has anticipated export revenue to reach USD18.2 billion in 2025, state media reported yesterday, quoting EDB Chairman Mangala Wijesinghe.
Wijesinghe said that the EDB has set a goal of increasing Sri Lanka’s export revenue to USD45 billion within the next five years.
In 2024, Sri Lanka recorded USD16.2 billion in export revenue, driven by higher-than-expected earnings from the apparel and information and communication technology sectors, he said. For 2025, the EDB expected several other industries, including gems and jewellery, shipbuilding, logistics, construction, and electronics, to make a greater contribution to export income, Wijesinghe said.
Wijesinghe said the gem and jewellery sector, which currently generates around USD400 million annually, has the potential to surpass USD1 billion in revenue within the next two years.
Additionally, the EDB was facilitating joint ventures to strengthen the electronic and electrical industries, aiming to diversify and expand the country’s export base, Wijesinghe said.
