IPOH (Bernama) – Besides the wide range of food found at Meru Raya Ramadan Bazaar in Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah in Ipoh, visitors could also found themselves in the company of ‘pink guards’ from the popular Korean drama series, Squid Game.
‘More interestingly, these ‘guards’ are selling watermelon juice in various flavours to quench the thirst when breaking fast.
Inspired by the popular Korean drama series, Nur Nadira Muhammad Nazir decided to wear the iconic series’ costume to sell ‘King of Watermelon’, which is watermelon-flavoured drink.

The 21-year-old girl from Ipoh has been selling watermelon drink in various flavours at Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah Ramadan Bazaar in Meru Raya since the first day of Ramadan last Sunday.
“I chose to wear the Squid Game costume and mask because I really like the popular series and got this idea with the aim of attracting people to come and buy at our stall.
“I spent about MYR300 to buy the Squid Game costume and doll which is hung in front of the stall besides I also played the Squid Game song, ‘Mingle Game Song ‘Round and Round’ throughout the business session,” she said when met by Bernama on Wednesday.
Nur Nadira said the gimmick worked well since day one as the response from visitors has been very encouraging.

According to her, wearing the Squid Game costume is quite challenging under the hot weather condition lately but the non-stop sales took away the mind from the heat.
“Even though it is hot wearing costume and mask, my workers and I are still enthusiastic just to attract customers. There are times when the masks are taken off because the weather is hot and it makes it easier to work.
For a start, she is offering watermelon juice in five flavours, namely original watermelon, sarbath watermelon, extra joss watermelon, coconut watermelon and mojito watermelon, which are sold at between MYR5 and MYR8.
Nur Nadira, assisted by three workers, started the business operations at 3 pm until the juice stock runs out.
