Spreading the festive cheer

Azlan Othman

Orphans, their guardians and the underprivileged are not being overlooked as the festive spirit fills the air.

The Kampong Lumapas ‘A’ Village Consultative Council held a donation ceremony to share in the festivities and strengthen bonds between villagers and orphans, as well as their guardians.

Syariah High Court Judge cum guest of honour Dato Seri Setia Haji Johar bin Haji Muhamad presented the donations to 31 orphans at the home of Kampong Lumapas ‘A’ Acting Village Head. The annual event included a Tahlil and prayers for the deceased led by Haji Misli @ Mohd Husanuddin bin Haji Jaya.

A similar event was held at Kampong Sungai Hanching Mosque, with donations chipped in by the mosque’s takmir committee members.

Patron of the mosque, Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman handed over the donations to the orphans. The event included a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony.

Meanwhile, Lotus Light Charity Society with the help of Persatuan Kereta Tahan Lasak Brunei (PKTLB) distributed food and other basic necessities to 30 underprivileged families in the run up to Hari Raya.

The teams made drop-offs to homes in Kampong Putat, Kampong Kasat, Kampong Lumapas ‘A’ and Kampong Lumapas ‘B’.

LLCS has over the years partnered with PKTLB for the charity drive. The partnership looks to ensure more families will benefit from the charitable endeavour.

LLCS Chairman Yeo Tiong Lok, Vice Chairman Lim Sam Lee, Secretary General Peng Eng Lee and PKTLB President Abidin bin Haji Musa and 40 personnel helped with the distribution.
