Consultant Medical Oncologist at the Brunei Cancer Centre of the Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre and Adjunct Associate Professor at Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences of Universiti Brunei Darussalam Dr Ravi Sekhar Patnaik spoke on breast cancer awareness while the physician and Head of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department Dr Indulekha Anayath presented a talk on cervical cancer during a cancer awareness talk. The talk was hosted by Suri Seri Begawan (SSB) Hospital in conjunction with the hospital’s 50th anniversary celebration yesterday.
Meanwhile, physician and Head of General Surgery Chong Chean Leung in his talk focussed on colorectal cancer awareness.
The talks raised awareness among the public on the types of cancer that can affect males and females, how to identify potential symptoms and to conduct early tests and screening to prevent cancer from moving to the late stages.
The talks also highlighted the advancements made not only in cancer screening but also treatment options available in the country and worldwide.
The talks saw 80 participants, including officers and staff from government departments and schools in the Belait District.
The hospital’s nursing staff Haji Mohd Reduan bin Abdul Fata was the moderator.
SSB Hospital’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Mohamad Alikhan bin Haji Mohd Yakop presented tokens of appreciation to the speakers at the end of the talks.
