The Brunei History Centre (PSB), through Borneo Research Centre (penBorneo), launched a ‘Borneo, an Island of History’ project in conjunction with Brunei Darussalam’s 40th National Day at the penBorneo’s building in Anggerek Desa yesterday.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, the guest of honour, launched the project.
The launch, themed ‘History Empowering Borneo Relations’, was coordinated by the PSB to serve as a medium for research on the history of the Sultanate and Borneo.
The project aims to ensure important research materials are properly disseminated domestically as well as in Sabah, Sarawak and Kalimantan.
The ceremony also saw the minister launch the Citra Borneo Exhibition Gallery, an initiative by the PSB to take a more proactive step towards increasing the authoritative nature of the country’s pursuit of resources, and a new book, Dari Jendela Borneo: Himpunan Kertas Kerja (Siri I), Pusat Pengkajian Borneo (penBorneo).
The event also featured a lecture, ‘Pulau Borneo Dari Sudut Pandangan Sejarah’, delivered by Ooi Keat Gin from the Academy of Brunei Studies of Universiti Brunei Darussalam. – Rokiah Mahmud
